Stamford
Metro Green Apartments

Application Process

 

On February 11, 2009 there was a meeting on affordable housing – Metro Green Apartments.  The apartments are located at 84 Henry Street , Stamford , CT 06902 .

 

The application will be available at CTE and accepted by March 1, 2009 to

April 30, 2009 (access forms in resources).

 

Application process requires:  identification, income & asset information, and qualification eligibility.

 

The apartments are owned by Jonathan Rose Companies and there are 50 units.

 

The application and materials will be provided in English, Spanish, and Polish upon request.

Congressman Jim Himes

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act

 

On February 18, 2009 Congressman Jim Himes joined the Stamford Partnership and neighborhood organizations to discuss the Economic Recovery Act for Connecticut held at Purdue Pharma auditorium (access forms in resources).

 

Overview:

  1. $3.5 million will save and create jobs with the recovery and reinvestment act.
  2. Connecticut :

            -     41,000 job save.

-         $1.35 million tax cut ($800 tax rebate).

-         $500 million improve transportation infrastructure.

-         $500 million to help state and local government.

-         $30,000 additional tax credit for college students.

-         $1 billion in grants and direct investment to communities and schools.

- Stamford $8 million.

  1. Distribution:

Formula – allocated by formula (example -Medicaid).

           Competition – competitive grant (example - Community Block Grant).

           Demand  – Eligible individual apply directly for the benefits 

                            (example – tax cut, food stamp, COBRA).

                        – One-time distribution (direct payments from program.

                           (example – social security and veterans).

        Agencies – existing programs within federal agencies.

(example – environmental clean-up, defense programs).

Plant Day of Service (April 22,2009):

EasternLand Management will partner with Waterside Coalition to provide community service within Waterside on April 22, 2009. Rosa Hartman is the designated park for the community service. The plan is to plant flowers in the front, put up an assess sign, clean-up side and back of the parking lot from litter and over growth of weed and trees. Please join us.

Food Bank - Waterside Coalition Monthly Meeting at St. Clement Church 7 pm

Waterside Coalition monthly meeting at St. Clement church 7 p.m.  will be collecting and distributing can foods to our neighbors who are in need.

You can participate by dropping off bag comfort foods:  mac cheese, bank beans, pasta, cocoa, soup, rice & beans combo, etc.  
 
The food must be non perishable:  can, sealed packet/box, or jar.  Please double sac your bags to prevent spills and breaks.  You can recycle your old grocery bags.
 
Please leave the bags in the box located in the church or give to a Board Member.
 
There is an opportunity for those who can't provide food but want to make money donations:  make check payable to Waterside Coalition, Inc. and indicate in memo section of your check to Food bank of Lower Fairfield County.
 
To our neighbors, please don't hesitate to take bag.
Chester Addison Summer Camp

Chester Addison is holding its summer camp from July 6 to August 7. Camp operates Monday through Friday 8:30-5:30 and is free of charge. Please stop by 245 Selleck Street to pick up an application or call 348-6491

Summer Jobs- ChesterAddison is looking for Summer Camp counselors. Anyone who applies must be 16 by July 6. Applications are available until May 1 at Chester Addison

CIT's- Any Waterside resident who is 14 or 15 and looking for a counselor in training position need to come down to Chester Addison by May 1 and fill out an application.
